B Be sure there is no free-standing water in and around your home. Everyone can do their part to control mosquito growth!
C California has no local transmission of Zika. Let's keep it that way!

Ask your children what they know about Zika. Explain what they can do to control mosquito growth at home, or protect themselves from mosquito bites when traveling. Click on the image below for more information.

If you must travel, protect your children from Zika

If you and your family are traveling to an area with Zika, follow instructions when applying insect repellent on children. 

  • Apply sunscreen first and apply insect repellent second.
  • Be sure to stay in places where there is air conditioning.
  • Cover your children with long sleeved shirts and pants.
  • Do not use repellent on skin that is under clothing.
  • Every time you use insect repellent on your child's face, spray it on your hands first, then apply to your child's face.

  • DO NOT use products containing oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE) or para-menthane-diol (PMD) on children under 3 years old.
  • DO NOT use insect repellent on babies under 2 months old.
